A landing sits at a change of direction in a staircase — a half-landing partway up a flight, or the platform at the top where the stair meets the upper floor. Because it's viewed as a single continuous surface rather than a series of individual steps, landing boards are selected for consistent colour and grain across the full width, more like a small section of flooring than an individual tread. We supply landing stock as dressed board suitable for laying edge-to-edge like flooring, in the same Blackbutt or Spotted Gum species used through the rest of the JVS stair range. For wider landings or where a seamless panel look is wanted, boards can be supplied in matched runs to minimise visible colour variation across the platform.

Working With Stair Landings
Lay landing boards using standard hardwood flooring practice — secret-nailed or direct-stick over an appropriate subfloor — with attention to expansion gaps at the perimeter and a smooth transition to adjoining treads and flooring. Board runs should be planned before fixing to manage colour and grain matching across the visible surface. Sand and finish the landing as part of the same coating pass as the adjoining treads and flooring where possible, for a consistent sheen across the whole staircase. Because landings see concentrated turning traffic, expect slightly faster wear at the pivot point than on open floor area, and plan recoat cycles accordingly.
