JVS TIMBER — LVLS

LVLs (Laminated Veneer Lumber)

Laminated Veneer Lumber — LVL — is one of the most important engineered timber products in modern construction. Built from many thin timber veneers bonded together under controlled factory conditions, LVL is stronger, straighter and far more consistent than sawn timber, and it spans further with less movement. JVS Timber supplies a complete structural LVL range to AS/NZS 4357 — framing LVL in E10, E14 and exterior-rated H3 primed grades, a stiff E12 formwork LVL, and a dedicated truss LVL — so builders, fabricators and formworkers can source the right engineered member for every part of the job from one supplier. Whether you are framing walls, carrying loads over openings, building roof or floor trusses, or setting up concrete formwork, our LVL range delivers reliable, predictable performance. ABOUT LVL

Engineered for Strength, Straightness and Consistency

LVL is made by peeling logs into thin veneers (typically around 3 mm or less), drying and grading them for stiffness, then bonding them together with the grain running in the same direction into a continuous billet that is cut to size. Because the veneers are pre-graded and the natural defects of solid timber are dispersed through many thin layers, LVL has very uniform, predictable structural properties — its stiffness varies far less than sawn timber — and it can be produced in long, straight lengths. The result is an engineered member that resists the warping, twisting, bowing and shrinking that affect solid timber. Two things define each LVL product: its stress grade and its treatment. The stress grade is given as an 'E' value — the modulus of elasticity, or stiffness, in gigapascals — so E10 LVL is comparable in stiffness to MGP10 pine and makes a straight, stable framing timber, while stiffer E14 LVL is suited to beams, lintels, trusses and longer spans. The treatment is given as a hazard class: H2S provides glueline termite protection for dry, interior use south of the Tropic of Capricorn, while H3 is treated for exterior, above-ground exposure. Our team can help you match the grade and treatment to your application.

WHY CHOOSE JVS

Why Choose LVL from JVS Timber

Straighter and More Stable than Sawn Timber

LVL is engineered to be straight and dimensionally stable, resisting the warping, twisting and bowing of solid timber — which means faster framing, fewer rejects and a better finished result.

Predictable, Uniform Strength

Because the veneers are pre-graded and defects are dispersed, LVL’s structural properties are highly consistent, so members perform predictably to their stress grade.

Long Lengths and Greater Spans

LVL is available in long, straight lengths and carries loads further than equivalent sawn timber, giving designers more flexibility over openings and spans.

Glueline Treatment Through the Section

Our H2S LVL is treated through the glueline, so the whole cross-section is protected against termites and cuts, notches and drill holes do not need re-treating on site.

The Right Grade for Every Job

From E10 framing to stiff E14 beams and trusses, exterior H3 primed members and E12 formwork, our range covers the full spectrum of LVL applications from one supplier.

TREATMENT & GRADES

Understanding E-Grades and Treatments

The 'E' grade is the modulus of elasticity — a measure of stiffness — expressed in gigapascals. A higher number means a stiffer member: E10 is comparable to MGP10 pine and suits general framing, while E14 is considerably stiffer and is used for beams, lintels, trusses and longer spans. Stiffness is only part of the structural picture, so the correct member size for a given load and span must always be taken from the manufacturer’s span tables and, where required, confirmed by a project engineer. The treatment is given as a hazard class. H2S is a glueline treatment — termiticide infused into the adhesive during manufacture — that protects the entire cross-section against termites and borers for dry, interior, above-ground use south of the Tropic of Capricorn; because the whole section is treated, cuts and drill holes do not need re-treating. H3 timber is treated for exterior, above-ground exposure where the member may get wet. Always match the treatment to where and how the LVL will be used.

OUR COMMITMENT

Sustainable & Ethically Sourced

LVL is an efficient, responsible use of timber — it makes structural members from fast-growing, plantation-grown veneers and optimises the resource by grading and placing veneers where they are needed. JVS Timber supplies LVL manufactured to AS/NZS 4357 and compliant with Australian industry standards. Specifying the correct grade and treatment so members last their full service life is the most sustainable outcome of all.

SIZES & ORDERING

LVL Sizes & Availability

JVS Timber supplies LVL in the common structural depths and thicknesses and in long lengths to suit framing, beams, trusses and formwork. Whether you need a few beams for a renovation or bulk LVL for a full build or production run, our team can confirm current stock, sizes, grades, treatments and competitive trade pricing, delivered Australia-wide. Tell us the member sizes, grades and lengths on your plans or engineering documentation and we will confirm availability — and point you to the relevant span tables where helpful.

LVL — Frequently Asked Questions

The E grade is the modulus of elasticity — the timber’s stiffness — in gigapascals. A higher number is stiffer: E10 is comparable to MGP10 pine for general framing, while E14 is much stiffer and suits beams, lintels, trusses and longer spans. Always size members using the manufacturer’s span tables and an engineer where required.
