Pine Products

Pine is the workhorse of Australian building — versatile, cost-effective, lightweight, easy to work, and available in a treatment and grade for almost every application. At JVS Timber we supply a complete range of quality Radiata Pine products, from structural framing that carries the load of a home to treated pine for decks and outdoor structures, general-purpose pine for non-structural uses, and factory-primed LOSP timber ready for exterior trim and joinery. Whether you are framing a new house, building a pergola, fitting out an interior or finishing a facade, our Pine Products range has a reliable, standards-compliant option to suit. Because pine is plantation-grown and renewable, it is also one of the most sustainable timber choices available — fast-growing, consistently supplied and competitively priced. ABOUT PINE

Australia’s Most Versatile Building Timber

Radiata Pine (Pinus radiata) is the backbone of Australian construction. Grown in managed plantations across the country, it is a fast-growing, renewable softwood that is light to handle, straightforward to cut, nail and screw, and accepts preservative treatments, primers, stains and paints exceptionally well. Those qualities make it the default choice for everything from house frames and roof trusses to fencing, decking substructures, mouldings and interior fit-outs. Its pale, even colour and clean grain also make it easy to finish to almost any look. The key to using pine well is matching the right product to the job. Structural pine is strength- and stiffness-graded to carry loads. Treated pine is impregnated with preservatives and rated by hazard class for where it can be safely used — inside, outside above ground, or in the ground. Non-structural pine is the cost-effective choice for jobs that do not bear load, and primed LOSP pine is treated and factory-primed for exterior trim and joinery. JVS Timber supplies all four, so you can source a coordinated, compliant pine package for your project from a single supplier.

WHY PINE

Why Choose Pine Products from JVS Timber

A Grade and Treatment for Every Job

From load-bearing structural framing to outdoor treated pine and paint-ready primed trim, our range covers the full spectrum of pine applications — so you can source a coordinated package for the whole project from one supplier.

Lightweight and Easy to Work

Pine is light to handle and easy to cut, nail, screw and machine on site, which speeds up installation and reduces labour compared with dense hardwoods — a major advantage on framing and large repetitive jobs.

Standards-Compliant and Reliable

Our structural pine is machine-graded for consistent strength and stiffness, and our treated pine is processed to recognised hazard classes, so you can specify with confidence that the timber meets Australian industry requirements.

Cost-Effective

Pine offers excellent value, particularly across the large volumes used in framing and outdoor structures, helping builders and developers keep projects on budget without compromising performance.

Sustainable and Renewable

Plantation-grown Radiata Pine is a fast-growing, renewable resource with consistent supply, making it one of the more environmentally responsible structural timber choices available.

Takes Treatment and Finishes Well

Pine readily accepts preservative treatments, primers, stains and paints, giving it the flexibility to perform indoors, outdoors and as a finished, painted element.

UNDERSTANDING PINE

Pine Grades and Hazard Classes Explained

Two systems determine how pine should be specified, and understanding them helps you order the right product the first time. The first is structural grading. Machine Graded Pine (MGP) is mechanically tested for strength and stiffness and stamped MGP10, MGP12 or MGP15 — the higher the number, the stronger and stiffer the timber. Older F-grades (such as F5 and F7) describe a similar idea using a different scale. For any load-bearing element you should specify a structural grade and never substitute one grading system for another without checking equivalence, because the engineering values differ. The second system is the hazard class, which governs treated pine. Hazard classes run from H1 to H6 and describe the conditions a treated timber can safely withstand. H2 covers interior framing protected from weather; H3 is for exterior timber used above ground, such as pergolas, fascia and cladding; H4 is for timber in contact with the ground, including posts, fence palings and retaining walls; and H5 is for timber in severe in-ground or wet exposures such as critical retaining structures and freshwater contact. Choosing a hazard class below what the application requires is the most common cause of premature failure in pine, so it pays to match the class to the job and to re-seal any cut surfaces, since cutting can expose untreated inner timber.

Matching the Product to the Application

As a simple rule of thumb: use Structural Pine where the timber carries load, Treated Pine wherever the timber is exposed to weather or moisture (H3 above ground, H4 in the ground), Non-Structural Pine for indoor, non-load-bearing work, and Primed LOSP for exterior trim and joinery you intend to paint. If you are ever unsure, the JVS Timber team can help you specify the correct grade and treatment for your climate and application.

Got Questions?

Pine Products — Frequently Asked Questions

Structural pine is strength- and stiffness-graded (for example MGP10 or MGP12) so it can safely carry load in frames, joists, bearers and trusses. Non-structural pine is general-purpose timber for jobs that do not bear load — shelving, mouldings, lining and joinery. Never use non-structural pine in a load-bearing role.
